BROWNS CANYON RAFTING
THIS IS WHAT COLORADO RAFTING IS SUPPOSED TO FEEL LIKE.
Browns Canyon hits the sweet spot between real whitewater excitement and a trip that is approachable for adventurous families and first-time rafters.
The Arkansas River winds into a rugged granite canyon where stretches of calm water give you time to look around before the river picks up again and the next rapid appears.
You get mountain scenery, narrow canyon walls, clear Colorado water and a string of famous Class III rapids without stepping all the way up to an advanced whitewater trip.
FUN WITHOUT BEING EXTREME
Browns Canyon isn't nonstop chaos. That's part of what makes it such a great rafting trip.
REAL WHITEWATER
Class III rapids bring splashy waves, quick maneuvers and plenty of chances to paddle hard with your guide.
TIME TO LOOK AROUND
Calmer stretches between rapids let you enjoy the granite canyon, pine-covered slopes and mountain scenery.
BEGINNER FRIENDLY
No previous rafting experience is required. We'll teach you what you need to know before you get on the river.
HALF DAY OR FULL DAY?
Both trips deliver Browns Canyon whitewater. The decision mostly comes down to how much river time you want.
HALF DAY
The classic Browns Canyon experience. Plenty of whitewater, spectacular scenery and enough adventure to make the day memorable without taking up your entire day.
FULL DAY
Slow the day down and make rafting the main event. Spend more time exploring the Arkansas River with additional river miles and a relaxing riverside lunch.
THE RAPIDS OF BROWNS CANYON
Browns Canyon is not about one big rapid. It is a long, varied run through granite canyon walls with wave trains, boulder gardens, narrow channels and classic Class III whitewater from beginning to end.
CANYON DOORS
The canyon begins to tighten and the character of the river starts to change. Canyon Doors is a fun introduction to the whitewater ahead and gets everyone paddling together.
PINBALL
A classic Browns Canyon boulder garden where the river winds between rocks and keeps your guide maneuvering while the crew works together.
ZOOM FLUME
One of the signature rapids of Browns Canyon. The river funnels into a fast chute with bigger waves and one of the most memorable rides of the trip.
EGG BEATER
Rocks, irregular waves and moving current make this another playful technical section where choosing the right line keeps things interesting.
THE SQUEEZE
The river narrows between obstacles and pushes the raft into a tighter line. Good teamwork and a few strong paddle strokes help thread the boat through.
HEMORRHOID ROCK
Yes, that really is the name. This rocky feature is part of Browns Canyon's long tradition of colorful rapid names and is one guests tend to remember.
BIG DROP
A pronounced drop and strong current make Big Drop another classic Class III moment and one of the highlights in the heart of Browns Canyon.
SEVEN STAIRS
A longer sequence of waves and drops that feels like running down a watery staircase. The raft keeps moving and the splashes keep coming.
WIDOWMAKER
Rocks, waves and a more technical line give Widowmaker plenty of personality. Like most Browns rapids, its character changes noticeably with river level.
RAFT RIPPER
Another rocky section where boat placement matters. At lower flows especially, Browns becomes more technical and finding the clean line is part of the adventure.
SEIDEL'S SUCKHOLE
One of the best-known rapids on this stretch of the Arkansas. Its signature hole becomes especially impressive at higher water and adds another major hit downstream of Browns Canyon.
TWIN FALLS
The whitewater keeps going downstream with another fun Class III feature, adding even more action before the river begins to transition out of the canyon corridor.
A BIG ADVENTURE WITHOUT THE BIG-COMPANY FEEL.
Browns Canyon is popular. Your rafting trip doesn't have to feel like an assembly line.
Monumental Expeditions is a small, family-run rafting company. We intentionally keep our trips smaller so guides have time to work with your group and the day feels more relaxed and personal.
WHAT'S INCLUDED
Show up ready to raft. We'll take care of the river equipment.
