ON THE RIVER
Monumental Expeditions is a small, family-run rafting company based in Nathrop, Colorado.
We started Monumental in 2015 after years of guiding and working on rivers throughout Colorado and the West. Rafting had already been a big part of our lives, so starting our own company made sense.
More than a decade later, we're still doing the same basic thing: taking people rafting on the Arkansas River and trying to give every group a great day on the water.

River experience matters because the Arkansas doesn't stay the same all summer.
Snowpack, weather, water levels, releases, and the time of year can all change how a section of river feels. Knowing the river helps us match groups with a trip that makes sense for the conditions and the people going.
Sometimes that means a mellow Salida Valley float. Sometimes it means Browns Canyon or The Numbers. Different groups are looking for different days.

We're a small rafting company, and we like it that way. It lets us stay involved in the trips and spend more time with the people rafting with us.
EXPERIENCED GUIDES
Good guiding is a mix of river knowledge, judgment, communication, and knowing how to make the day fun for the group in your boat.

Have a question about ages, water levels, or which trip to choose? Call us. You'll be talking to people who know the trips.
SIMPLE PRICING
The standard river gear you need is included. We don't add required wetsuit, splash jacket, bootie, or equipment rental fees when you arrive.
WE'RE STILL
PART OF THE TRIPS
Monumental has changed since 2015, but it hasn't turned into a big operation.
We're still answering phones, planning trips, watching river conditions, working around the shop, and staying involved with what's happening on the water.
Depending on the day, you may even end up with an owner guiding your raft.
CHALK CREEK
CAMPGROUND
Our rafting office is located inside Chalk Creek Campground in Nathrop.
We're almost exactly between Buena Vista and Salida, with easy access to the different sections of the Arkansas River we raft.
It's also convenient if you're making rafting part of a longer trip. You can camp here, stay in an RV or cabin, visit the nearby hot springs, and explore the rest of the Arkansas River Valley.
